Pimple truly can give any woman, sleepless nights. Needless to say, every effort should be made to remove the pimples. Breakouts if not treated properly, can leave permanent scars on your skin. Pimples and acne usually occurs between 11-30 years of age. But it can also occur beyond in your 30’s due to hormonal fluctuations. Other factors can include hormonal imbalance, erratic menstruation, anxiety, stress and using oil based skin and makeup products.

One can do a lot to treat acne using products available at a drugstore or cosmetic counters. However, they will take time to heal. Many natural methods are effective in treating pimples within a very short span of time. There are plenty of home-made remedies that can help you with your pimples.

Honey

Honey is antibiotic in nature which can help improve acne. Apply a teaspoon of honey to affected areas, or make a mask by mixing a half cup of honey with one cup of plain oat meal and leaving it for 30 minutes and then rinse it off.

Tea- tree oil

Tea tree oil is great for treating skin conditions and pimples. It has antibiotic properties that help fight the bacteria that cause the skin problem. It also has soothing properties which help to reduce the redness and inflammation of the pimples. Just dip a cotton ball in tea tree oil and dab it on the affected area. Rinse your face after 15-20 minutes. You can also mix a tablespoon of aloe vera gel in few drops of tea tree oil and apply it on your pimples and blemishes and then rinse it off.

Tomato juice and turmeric face pack

Lycopene is that key ingredient of tomato pulp, which is known for its deep skin cleansing properties. Tomato juice unclogs your skin pores and so tightens them. Mix 2 teaspoon of tomato juice with half teaspoon of honey and gently massage it on your skin for 5-6 minutes, let it dry for 5 minutes and then rinse it off with mild soap.

Cut the fresh garlic and rub it in your pimples and leave it for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat the treatment several times a day to get rid of pimples permanently.

Fuller’s earth and rose water

To soak up the excess oil and leave your skin fresh, mix Fuller’s earth with a  few drops of rose water and dash a drop of lemon juice. Fuller’s earth helps in drying up acne, rose water nourishes and lemon juice gets rid of acne scars.

Diet high in refined sugar, carbohydrates can cause acne. Diet that includes excessive trans fats and food fried in heavy oils tend to trigger breakouts. The high level of caffeine can also result in pimples and breakouts. So opt more for fresh vegetables and fruits and food item rich in proteins and fibers.

Exercise regularly for healthy skin. Exercise increases blood flow and helps to nourish the skin. Always wash your face thoroughly after exercise to prevent excessive oil builds up and clog pores.

Washing your face thoroughly is the first step of preventing pimples. Washing your face properly do not leave soap residue which prevents the clogging of pores and pimples. Always use soft, clean and separate towel for your face. Do not rub your face with towel. This can disturb the skin elasticity.

Never sleep with your make-up on. Make it a habit to remove your makeup before you go to bed. Sleeping with your make-up increases the risk of acne formation and skin allergies. Use cleansing milk or other mild make-up remover, that won’t cause acne and hydrates your skin.

Medications:

  • Benzoyl peroxide- this is the foremost common symptom drug. It is available in lotion, gels, cleansers, creams and washes. It kills bacteria and get rid of oily and dead skin.
  • Salicylic acid- helps to unplug pores.
  • Antibiotic lotions- this includes clindamycin or erythromycin. This reduces swelling by lowering the levels of P-acne.
  • Oral contraceptives- if the reason for your pimple is hormonal imbalances, you can be prescribed oral contraceptive pills. Contraceptive pills can inhibit the testosterone levels which is responsible for excess sebum production.
  • Oral Isotretinoin- in severe cases, oral retinoid also known as isotretinoin is also given.
  • Treatment for acne scar- for those acne has gone away but left them with permanent scarring, various options are available. These includes surgical procedures to elevate deep, depressed acne scars and lasers resurfacing to smooth out shallow acne scars.
